DEXTER-CATTLE
BEEFY LITTLE MILKERS
Dexter Cattle Beefy Little Milkers

Adelaide Royal Show
After a 2 year break, Dexters were again back at the Adelaide show. Six Dexters from 3 Studs were on show. Lyndcroft, Kim and Sally Baddams, had two, Kamama Creek, Brenton and Kathleen Walker, one and Green Glade, Bill and Lorelie Larsson, had three.

Brenton and Kim looked after all of the Dexters during the 6 days that they were there. Neither had shown at the Royal before, so it was a learning experience for handlers as well as cattle. Thursday prior to the start of the show the bulls were weighed and had their eye muscle and fat depth scanned. The results of all of the scans of all bulls from all breeds at the show are made available to the public and make interesting reading. The junior Dexter bull at 15 months of age weighed 340kg, fat score 4/3 and eye muscle area of 73cm. The senior Dexter bull at 25 months of age weighed 435kg, fat score 5/4 and eye muscle area of 79cm. These results compared more than favourably with those of the Australian Lowline.

As the Dexters were being judged late on Friday evening there was plenty of time to wash, blow and prepare. It was so good to have the support of some non showing Dexter breeders to help on the day.

We were lucky to have Nicholas to carry our Banner for Saturday’s Grand Parade and Dexter, Sebastian and Nicholas carried the banner for Sunday night’s parade. They thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

There was a lot of interest from the public in Dexters and many brochures and folders were handed out.

Hopefully Dexters will be at the Adelaide Royal Show again in 2010.
